Eyelash extensions are a cosmetic enhancement that involves attaching synthetic or natural hair fibers to the natural eyelashes to create a fuller, more dramatic look. They are applied by a professional using a specialized adhesive and can last for several weeks with proper care.
1. If you wear waterproof mascara, discontinue use 3 days prior to your appointment.
2. Arrive with a freshly clean face and impeccably clean lashes.
3. Avoid oil based products on and around the eyes.
4. Arrive freshly showered and with clean hair. You won't be able to wet the lashes for the initial 8-12 hours after application.
5. Remove your contacts, if you wear them. I recommend my clients wear glasses the day of service.
6. Facials first, lashes last.
7. Tint the lashes 24-48 hours prior to extension application.
Avoid Water for 8-12hrs:
During curing period, exposure to water, or even steam, could weaken the adhesive, causing the extension to fall prematurely.
Wash Your Lashes:
Washing your lashes daily with a lash cleanser will help to remove any build-up of dirt, oil, makeup, dead skin, and bacteria. It’s also imperative to avoid lash mites!
Avoid Face Products with Oils:
Oils affect the bond between the adhesive and the natural lash when they seep into the lash line. Over time, the lash glue will weaken and the extension will eventually shed.
Sleeping with Extensions:
Ideally, you should sleep on your back to avoid any friction between the extensions and your pillow. Also, silk or satin pillowcases are best. Change pillowcases frequently to avoid oil transfers.
No Water Proof Eye Makeup:
You’ll either need considerable force (with a lot of rubbing) or a strong cleanser like an oil-based one. All of this is a straight pathway to losing your extensions prematurely.
Maintain Lashes with Refills:
Refills are designed to fill in any obvious gaps left as extensions naturally fall. The point at which your real lashes join the eyelash extension weakens over time due to oil or other impurities. After about three weeks, the join starts to become unstable and will be ready to come off. Refills also prevent damages from heavy and droopy outgrown lashes.
We lose 1-5 lashes a day and on average, a person can lose up to 20% of their natural lashes every two weeks. Natural eyelashes grow in and fall out in cycles, which occurs every 60 to 90 days. A new eyelash has already been growing to replace the lash that falls out and for most of us, we don’t even notice.
If you have ever noticed how your hair sheds more during certain seasons, you’re not alone! This is called “seasonal moulting” and it’s completely natural for lash and head hair!
How long will a set of Eyelash Extensions Last?
In most cases, lash extensions should last the length of the growth cycle of your natural eyelash. However, this truly depends on how well you care for your lashes in between refills. As well as your day to day activity. See the aftercare instruction page for more information on how to care for your lashes. Refills should be required about every 3 weeks and varies for everyone.
The symptoms of lash glue sensitivity and lash glue allergy may look similar, making it difficult to differentiate between the two.
While sensitive clients are those who are stimulated by cyanoacrylate and have symptoms such as congestion/tear/runny nose, etc. These symptoms disappear within 24 hours.
On the other hand, allergic clients are those with swollen eyes and pain who have allergic reactions to the ingredients in the glue. Even if you are not allergic to the lash glue, there are cases when allergic reactions may occur if you have low immunity due to fatigue or pain. Therefore, it's not uncommon for someone to suddenly become allergic to lash glue even if they weren't before. If you have an allergic reaction, you should immediately get the lash extensions removed and see a specialist.
